Growth Agency, Fractional CMO or In-House Team? A Guide for Kerala Businesses

The short version

Agency, fractional CMO, growth partner, growth pod or in-house team: what each does, when each fits, and how a Kerala business can choose.

If you run a business in Kottayam or elsewhere in Kerala, sooner or later someone will tell you that you need help with growth. The trouble is that the help comes in many shapes: a growth agency, a fractional CMO, a growth pod, or a full-time team you hire yourself. This guide explains each option in plain language, so you can pick the one that fits the business you actually have.

Start with the real question

Before comparing models, ask what is actually stopping growth. Is it that not enough people know about you? Is it that people enquire but nobody follows up? Is it that the offer itself is unclear? Marketing helps with the first. It does not fix the other two. Many businesses spend months on ads and reels when the real problem sits elsewhere.

Option 1: A growth agency

A growth agency is an outside team that runs campaigns and content, usually with a monthly fee and a report. It suits you when you already know who you sell to and what you sell, you need hands to produce ads, reels, landing pages and posts, and you can give quick feedback and approvals.

It is a poor fit when the business itself is unclear, because the agency will make marketing for a problem that marketing cannot solve. Ask any agency three things: which results will you report on (clicks, or enquiries and customers)? Who will actually work on my account? What will you tell me if marketing is not the problem?

Option 2: A fractional CMO

A fractional CMO is a senior marketer who works part-time for you. They set direction, choose channels, manage people and review results. They do not usually produce the work themselves. It suits you when you have some team or agency already and need someone senior to steer it. It fits less well when you have nobody to execute the plan.

Option 3: A growth partner

A growth partner works on the business, not only on its marketing. They look at the offer, the pricing, the sales process and the follow-up, and then decide where marketing fits. It suits you when growth has stalled and you cannot say why. At We Are In, we describe it as joining your business rather than working for it.

Option 4: An in-house team or a growth pod

Hiring your own team gives you full-time focus and deep knowledge of your business. It also costs more, takes time to recruit, and needs someone to manage it. A growth pod is a small group of specialists, often external, who work as one unit on a goal. Both suit businesses that already have steady revenue and a clear plan to scale.

A simple way to decide

Unclear problem: start with a growth partner. Clear problem, no hands: choose an agency. Hands available, no direction: choose a fractional CMO. Steady revenue and a clear plan: build an in-house team or a growth pod.

These are not exclusive. Many businesses move from one to another as they grow. If you are not sure which describes you, that is usually the sign to settle the problem first and the staffing second.
